Located in the south of the appellation, on deep gravel soil, the 73 hectares (in production) of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande – “Pichon Comtesse” to fans – overlook the Gironde estuary, benefiting from its favorable climate influence. 11 hectares of vines, planted in the neighboring appellation Saint-Julien, give the wine a rare refinement in Pauillac. Since 2007, this major estate in Pauillac belongs to the Rouzaud family (Champagne Louis Roederer). The director, Nicolas Glumineau, continues the immense work done by the former owners, much to the delight of wine lovers who appreciate the consistent quality of the wines. The significant presence of Merlot in the blends (35% of the grape variety) gives them charm and finesse, which allows the wines to be delivered earlier than most of the great Pauillacs. However, the share of Cabernet Sauvignon has increased in recent vintages, resulting in even greater aging prospects. The estate is currently being converted to organic and biodynamic farming. With this in mind, 4 hectares of vines are uprooted every year and beautified for 3 years before replanting, so that the new vines receive biodynamic treatments from the start of their youth. The second wine is Réserve de la Comtesse / Pichon Comtesse Réserve (2018).
