This magnificent 1er Cru Classé from Sauternes belongs to the Axa group since 1992, more precisely the subsidiary Axa Millésimes which also owns the prestigious châteaux Pichon Longueville Baron in Pauillac and Petit-Village in Pomerol. Christian Seely runs the property, with technical know-how from Daniel Llose. Oenologist Eric Boissenot is the one who accompanies the vinifications This vast vineyard of 92 hectares, of which two parcels border the legendary Château d’Yquem, is based on varied soils: areas of clay-sandy gravel and clay-sandy soils rather. Sémillon occupies 90% of the area, complemented by Sauvignon. The estate owes its name to Blaise de Suduiraut, the owner of the place in the 17th century. It has wonderful French gardens designed by André Le Nôtre, the famous author of the gardens of Château de Versailles, Suduiraut wines express the “roast” characteristic of the great Sauternes, with notes of candied orange, melon, apricot and exotic fruits of spices (curry, saffron), honey and licorice. Strong, dignified and velvety, they offer fabulous aging potential. The estate’s second wine is Lions de Suduiraut.
